Kayaking with Tall Bloke Adventures

What’s the activity about ?

Lake District kayaking, for me, is just a great way to spend some time. Paddling along in a beautiful place, having a chat with some really nice people about all sorts of topics. Learning from the guests about their interests. Passing on a bit of knowledge about the local area and people. All the while doing something that is naturally very healthy, physically & mentally, to do. Kayaking in the Lake District is a great activity, Ullswater is the perfect place to enjoy it.

Where do we meet / launch / finish ?

The beach we meet, launch and finish the trips from, is at Glenridding Sailing Centre. If you are using a satnav ‘ Glenridding Bridge ‘ is the best destination to use. More details are sent with the email confirmation. It’s a very friendly place set in a lovely location. There’s no set route on the tours. It always depends on weather conditions on the day, and group ability.

Double Sea Kayaks

Double Kayaks are used as they are a lot more stable than singles. They are also easier to control, especially if there is a breeze. There is no need to synchronise paddling with your partner. I’ll explain more in the brief, and out on the water.

The brief is, as the name suggests, a brief chat about things. However I’ll cover everything that’s needed before we go out.

I’ll make sure everyone is comfortable with what’s happening, how they are dressed, and with the equipment. A rookie error is to try and rush out onto the water. We’ll have plenty of time out on the lake.

What clothing should I wear ?

It depends on how you, yourself, experience temperature. On the same day, one person will be fine in a T-shirt while another might like a few layers.
As well as the below suggestions, I’ll always have a chat before we set off. My advice is always ‘ Dress for the moment and give yourself options ‘. It takes seconds to put a layer on, or take it off.
The biggest surprise people usually experience is just how dry an activity this is. These boats are not ‘ Sit-on-Tops ‘ where you will get wet immediately. Usually at the end of a trip people are able just to get in their car and go.
With that in mind, old trainers, socks ( your feet will very likely stay dry as you’re in the boat as you are eased from the beach at the start and eased back on at the end ) jogging bottoms, leggings  or shorts. T-shirt, light fleece or mid-layer.
The only place that might get dripped on from the paddle is your lap. I’ll show you how to minimise this in the brief. I also have lots of waterproof trousers if you’d like to wear them.
Bring a waterproof jacket then decide on the day whether to either leave it ashore, bring it in a dry bag I can lend you, or wear it. ( again, feel free to borrow my stuff ).
Sun hat ( with cord ) or cap in sunny weather.
Beanie hat & gloves ( w/proof are better than wool ) in cold weather conditions.

Solo Travellers

A guest enjoying a Lake District Kayak Adventure.

Lake District Adventures for a solo traveller

Up until late April, solo bookings are available. They start again early September.

One per trip due to there being only one single boat. I use doubles for their stability and ease of use.

If you would like to guarantee a 1 to 1 private guided tour or coaching session, please book two places. Then email me with the preference. I’ll block the other spaces off.
